Are you passionate about marine life? 🐙 Do you have a keen eye for detail, love diving into exciting underwater environments 🐢, and enjoy creating magical guest experiences? We're looking for a dedicated Aquarist II to help care for our diverse aquatic collection—including tropical and temperate fish, reptiles, amphibians, and more!

As a key member of our Displays Team, you’ll play a hands-on role in exhibit maintenance, animal husbandry, SCUBA diving, and public engagement. This isn’t just a job—it’s a splash into a career with purpose! 🌟

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities):

• 🐟 Provide daily care of marine and freshwater exhibits—including diet prep, feeding, and maintenance

• 📋 Maintain accurate records of animal health, exhibit conditions, dive logs, and treatments

• 🧪 Perform water quality testing and assist with disease diagnosis and treatment

• 🤿 Dive in our stunning 200,000-gallon ocean habitat for cleaning, maintenance, and public presentations

• 🔧 Maintain and inspect diving gear and life support equipment

• 🎤 Engage guests with educational presentations and in-water dive talks

• 🛠 Support long-term display development and improvements

• ✅ Ensure compliance with AZA, USDA, and Merlin safety standards

🧰 What You Bring (Skills & Qualifications):

• 🐠 2–3 years’ experience in a professional aquarium environment

• 📚 B.A./B.S. in Biology, Marine Biology, Zoology, Psychology, or related field OR aquarium science certification

• ✅ SCUBA Open Water Certification (Rescue Diver preferred)

• 🧪 Knowledge of water quality parameters and life support systems (UV, skimmers, ozone, etc.)

• 🐡 Hands-on experience with various species including fish, invertebrates, reptiles & amphibians

• 🔬 Familiarity with disease identification, treatments, and necropsy procedures

• 💬 Strong verbal/written communication skills and guest interaction experience

• 🚗 Valid Minnesota driver’s license

Bonus if you specialize in Cnidarian husbandry or Quarantine protocols! 🌈

• ⚠️ Follow and enforce SEA LIFE & Merlin safety protocols

• 📝 Conduct and participate in risk assessments

• 🧯 Respond appropriately to emergencies or incidents

• 👷 Maintain safety of self, team, and guests at all times

🕒 Schedule & Environment:

• 🔄 Flexible schedule: Sun–Thu or Tue–Sat, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

• 📆 Must be available weekends, holidays, and for emergency call-ins

• 🦺 Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in loud, wet, and temperature-variable environments

• 🏃‍♂️ Involves standing, bending, crawling, climbing, and diving

• 🧤 PPE required for some tasks

• 🧳 Occasional travel to other Merlin properties
