Are you passionate about marine life? π Do you have a keen eye for detail, love diving into exciting underwater environments π’, and enjoy creating magical guest experiences? We're looking for a dedicated Aquarist II to help care for our diverse aquatic collection—including tropical and temperate fish, reptiles, amphibians, and more!
As a key member of our Displays Team, you’ll play a hands-on role in exhibit maintenance, animal husbandry, SCUBA diving, and public engagement. This isn’t just a job—it’s a splash into a career with purpose! π
π Provide daily care of marine and freshwater exhibits—including diet prep, feeding, and maintenance
π Maintain accurate records of animal health, exhibit conditions, dive logs, and treatments
π§ͺ Perform water quality testing and assist with disease diagnosis and treatment
π€Ώ Dive in our stunning 200,000-gallon ocean habitat for cleaning, maintenance, and public presentations
π§ Maintain and inspect diving gear and life support equipment
π€ Engage guests with educational presentations and in-water dive talks
π Support long-term display development and improvements
β Ensure compliance with AZA, USDA, and Merlin safety standards
π 2–3 years’ experience in a professional aquarium environment
π B.A./B.S. in Biology, Marine Biology, Zoology, Psychology, or related field OR aquarium science certification
β SCUBA Open Water Certification (Rescue Diver preferred)
π§ͺ Knowledge of water quality parameters and life support systems (UV, skimmers, ozone, etc.)
π‘ Hands-on experience with various species including fish, invertebrates, reptiles & amphibians
π¬ Familiarity with disease identification, treatments, and necropsy procedures
π¬ Strong verbal/written communication skills and guest interaction experience
π Valid Minnesota driver’s license
Bonus if you specialize in Cnidarian husbandry or Quarantine protocols! π
β οΈ Follow and enforce SEA LIFE & Merlin safety protocols
π Conduct and participate in risk assessments
π§― Respond appropriately to emergencies or incidents
π· Maintain safety of self, team, and guests at all times
π Flexible schedule: Sun–Thu or Tue–Sat, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
π Must be available weekends, holidays, and for emergency call-ins
π¦Ί Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in loud, wet, and temperature-variable environments
πβοΈ Involves standing, bending, crawling, climbing, and diving
π§€ PPE required for some tasks
π§³ Occasional travel to other Merlin properties
