As an Animal Welfare Host, you'll support our Aquarists with the daily care and maintenance of our animals and their habitats. From preparing diets to snorkeling in tanks, this is a dynamic, fast-paced role where no two days are the same.
πΉ Help care for aquatic and terrestrial animals — including sharks, turtles, rays, reptiles, and invertebrates ππ¦
πΉ Assist with animal feeds and interact with guests during live demonstrations π€π¨π©π§
πΉ Support dive operations as a tender and participate in snorkeling-based cleaning tasks π€Ώπ
πΉ Keep detailed records of animal care, exhibit maintenance, and water quality π»π§ͺ
πΉ Collaborate with the Displays team to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare and guest experience
This role is a wet and wild mix of animal care, guest engagement, and behind-the-scenes support. π§½π‘
We’re looking for someone who is:

Passionate about animals and the ocean
β
Organized, responsible, and attentive to detail
β
Comfortable working with aquatic animals in close quarters
β
Capable of working independently and as part of a team
β
Able to lift up to 30 lbs and stand for long periods πͺπ
β
Friendly, approachable, and guest-service minded π
β¨ Bonus if you have:
SCUBA Open Water Certification π€Ώ
Experience working in an AZA-accredited facility π¬
Knowledge of the nitrogen cycle and water chemistry βοΈ
Preferred:
π Working towards a degree in Biology, Marine Science, Zoology, or related field
π Certification from an accredited aquarium or zoological program
Required:
π Some knowledge of aquatic animal care in a professional or academic setting
π₯ Experience in a guest-facing role
π§ Strong multitasking, communication, and problem-solving skills
π₯οΈ Comfortable with computer software and data entry
This is a part-time role with flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.
π‘οΈ Work in both indoor and outdoor environments with varying conditions.
π Occasional travel to other Merlin locations may be required.
