ROLE SUMMARY:
The Controls Assistant Manager directly supports the daily technical operations, performance, reliability of all rides, attractions, units, interactives, CCTV and audio video equipment across the resort. Working closely with the Senior Engineering & Controls Manager and utilising the skills within the controls team and external resources. Ensures routine maintenance, reactive breakdowns, modifications and performance of attractions is kept to a high standard and is consistently monitored. The candidate should have a good attention to detail, be highly motivated, demonstrate excellent communication skills while being people oriented to ensure the team is always striving to improve. A broad technical skillset is required however the key to the success of this position relies heavily on the management of a diverse workforce. Planning of works, team member scheduling, training and performance management are essential.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
· Schedule daily task of ride control and AV control technicians, track and assign all work orders within the Enterprise Asset Management system (HxGN).
· Support the department duty management program and when required serve as duty manager.
· Manage all staff welfare aspects of your direct reports and to demonstrate effective communication skills (written, verbal, listening) whenever facilitating discussion between the technician and technical management team.
· Support the Senior Engineering & Controls Manager with efforts to establish a quality work ethic within the team while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
· Champion the use of contemporary working practices and relevant tools applied by the work team to improve efficiency across the department, e.g. HxGN, RCA, with a long-term vison to implement a predictive maintenance led maintenance regime.
· Whenever circumstances dictate, while leading the team, simultaneously work as operational technician carrying out Planned Preventative Maintenance, unplanned (reactive) maintenance and ride start up procedures.
· Act as a guide for repairs and supporting emergency situations.
· Maintain full compliance with external and internal mandatory requirements, including responding accordingly to safety bulletins, technical bulletins, technical manual revisions, PPM amendments etc.
· Diligently follow and complete as required all administrative activities associated with Notification of Change (NOC) documentation, including liaising with authorised inspection bodies (AIB) as required.
· Be a role model for the work team with key attributes with respect to absence, timekeeping, communication, visibility and ensure work team behaviours reflect examples set for the team. Where there is cause, the Controls Assistant Manager is expected to follow established disciplinary procedures.
· Exhibit a positive personal mindset in support of the values, mission and objectives of Merlin Entertainments and the Technical Services department. Encourage team participation and commitment in pursuit of team deliverables.
· Actively pursue continuing professional development opportunities (for self and team) where these may arise. Attendance at trade body conferences and seminars, pursuit of professional institution membership as an example.
· Actively support team members personal growth by identifying development opportunities that are appropriate to the working environment and contribute to overall team capability.
· Support and respond appropriately whenever documents or communications of either a compliance dependent or generic nature are released and complete relevant assigned actions in a timely fashion.
· Assist with the planning and delivery of engineering activities, business KPIs and other long-term objectives.
· Support with the recruitment process for ride control and AV control technicians to ensure technician staffing remains at adequate levels.
· Maintain good relationship with the operations team and follow up on problems in the resort leading to downtimes and improve operational efficiency.
· Understand Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) ride requirement, as well as regulatory requirements, are fully compliant for LEGOLAND Florida attractions.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Health & Safety
· Ensures internal compliance with maintenance, safety and security procedures by following established ASTM (American Society for Testing & Materials International), NEC (National Electrical Code), NSF (National Science Foundation), OHSA as well as state and local codes.
· Ensure full compliance with policies and procedures set forth within the Health, Safety & Security in the workplace and in line with the Merlin Entertainments Group Policy.
· Understand risk assessments within own workplace and ensure reporting of any new risks to the appropriate manager.
· Compliance of safe working procedures for work activities within one’s job role, but cognizant of the effects on others prior to the activity/function.
· In cases of incidents or accidents ensure appropriate reporting is completed in a timely manner and escalated as appropriate.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
· Have 3 years of Supervisory or management experience.
· Strong people management skills to develop an effective team environment.
· Proven experience in control equipment and logic-based controllers (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff)
· Experience with communication protocols (Ethernet IP, Profibus, CIP, EtherCAT, Modbus, ASII, SERCOS)
· Working knowledge of Vectorworks, Q-Sys Programming, Nion Media Matrix, Alcorn McBride, Yamaha, GrandMA and Shure Audio Systems preferred.
· Familiarity with OSHA/ANSI/ETCP/NFPA and other supporting industry safety and implementation standards within the Entertainment workplace.
· Experience with CCTV camera monitoring systems both analogue and network based PoE.
· Attention to detail in all aspects, including dealing with life safety electrical equipment in a mechanical setting.
· Superior analytical skills when looking at control system fault finding and logic-based programming.
· Use of VLAN and WLAN protocols and automated control devices.
· Experience with low voltage electrical wiring and troubleshooting.
· Ensures internal compliance safety and security procedures.
EDUCATION:
· High School diploma, General Education Degree (GED) or equivalent is required.
· Formal qualification in PLC, programming or computing.
· Continuous improvement qualification (Such as; Lean six sigma), preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Ability to sit for sustained periods of time, to attend on-site and off-site meetings, perform paperwork activities, travel and drive.
· Must be able to demonstrate safe installation of lighting and audio gear on site.
· Must be able climb a ladder, truss and lift heavy equipment which can exceed over 25lbs
· Must be able to walk long distances, work around water, work in various climates including rain, being exposed to natural outdoor air quality and be able to be respirator trained when needed.
· Intermittent and prolonged standing and walking to move about the park site and interact with employees.
· Finger dexterity sufficient to complete paperwork activities and to use a computer.
· Visual acuity sufficient to read written materials, to complete paperwork activities, and to drive.
· Hearing sufficient to communicate with individuals in person and by telephone.
· Must be able to work in varying temperatures, climates inside and outside, as well as in direct and indirect sunlight.
· Intermittent and prolonged standing and walking to move about the park site.
· Finger dexterity sufficient to complete paperwork activities and to use a computer.
· Visual acuity sufficient to read written materials, to complete paperwork activities, and to drive.
· Hearing sufficient to communicate with individuals in person and by telephone.
· Maintain excellent physical condition with no restrictions on lifting, bending or respiratory actions.
· Climb to high places and perform work and inspection in difficult locations.
· Hear with surrounding distracting noises.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

· Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends to support park operations.
· Must have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record and be willing to utilize own vehicle for business purposes.
