The Health & Safety Manager will lead the implementation of Health & Safety programs, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and fostering a proactive safety culture across all operations.

This role will oversee strategic planning, operational support, risk management, and stakeholder engagement, with responsibility for managing health and safety risks, developing training programs, investigating incidents, and supporting emergency response procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Prepare and track Health & Safety action plans and annual work programs, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Develop and/or review departmental Risk Assessments, Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Control of Substances Hazardous to Work Processes (CoSWP), ensuring all safety measures are effectively documented and communicated.
  • Develop and write local safety policies and programs that reflect site-specific needs and statutory requirements.
  • Deputize for the regional Health & Safety and Security Director in their absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and H&S program delivery.
  • Collaborate with and support site departments to ensure the effective implementation of Health & Safety requirements, providing guidance and addressing concerns where necessary.
  • Act as the Safety Duty resource on designated trading days, providing on-the-ground expertise and support to staff and guests.
  • Develop, deliver, and track the effectiveness of comprehensive Health & Safety training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Prepare and cascade clear and engaging Health & Safety communication and briefing materials, ensuring staff and visitors are informed of key safety protocols and procedures.
  • Chair and coordinate consultative Health & Safety forums for staff, promoting open communication and encouraging a proactive safety culture.
  • Conduct Operational and Use Risk Assessment workshops to assess and mitigate hazards, ensuring staff and guest safety.
  • Undertake Health & Safety self-audits, inspections, and spot checks to ensure ongoing compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Plan and coordinate safety drills, liaising with local Police, Fire, and Health Departments to ensure all emergency procedures are up-to-date and tested regularly.
  • Investigate significant Health & Safety incidents, near-misses, or unsafe conditions, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Liaise with insurers and claims handlers to resolve matters related to incidents and accidents.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a Health & Safety management role, preferably within a high-risk or complex environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing safety policies and training programs.
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Strong track record in incident investigation and root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent (essential).
  • Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards chartered status (desirable).
  • Certification in risk assessment methodologies or emergency planning (desirable).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data reporting tools.
