What you'll bring to the team

 

The Regional Health and Safety Manager will support the Group Health, Safety & Security Director in the design and implementation of all necessary health and safety programs, ensuring compliance with legislative obligations and fostering a proactive safety culture across all Gateway operations and activities.

 

This role will assist with the necessary health and safety strategic planning, operational support, risk assessment and countermeasure determination, and stakeholder engagement, with responsibility for helping to oversee effective health and safety risk management, developing and delivering associated training and communication programs, monitoring performance / compliance, investigating incidents, and supporting emergency response procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

 

  • Promote Health & Safety as a core value through leadership, accountability, and a proactive safety culture across all departments.
  • Support cultural change initiatives such as “Protecting the Magic” to embed safety in everyday operations.
  • Support the development and execution of Health & Safety strategies, risk management plans, and annual programmes aligned with Gateway objectives.
  • Identify, evaluate, and control safety risks to ensure legal compliance and protect Gateway reputation.
  • Develop, review, and ensure implementation of Risk Assessments, SOPs, CoSWPs, and contractor management protocols.
  • Ensure consistent application of control measures and safe working practices across all Gateway operations.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and performance analyses to uphold standards and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead risk assessment workshops and support trend analysis to inform safety interventions.
  • Develop and deliver tailored Health & Safety training programs, ensuring all staff and management are competent and aware of safety responsibilities.
  • Collaborate on role-specific training and ensure effectiveness through evaluation and tracking.
  • Advise and support management teams on safety issues, including during capital projects.
  • Facilitate communication, guidance, and coaching to drive departmental ownership of safety practices.
  • Coordinate Health & Safety forums and act as the local lead for safety IT systems.
  • Support emergency planning and drills; investigate significant incidents and oversee corrective actions.
  • Liaise with insurers, enforcement bodies, and internal stakeholders regarding incidents, claims, and compliance.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a Health and Safety management role, preferably within a high-risk or complex environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing safety policies, initiatives and training programmes.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments, safety audits and inspections.
  • Track record in incident investigation and root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Safety qualification(s) required, e.g. OSHA 30 or NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
  • Safety qualification(s) preferred, e.g. Degree in Safety Management (or similar), ASP, CSP, SMS, OHST (according to BCSP) etc.
  • Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards Chartered status (desirable), or similar.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data reporting tools.
