The Rides Engineering & Water Quality Supervisor oversees the maintenance and safety of all waterpark attractions and rides across the resort. This hands-on leadership role ensures the mechanical, electrical, and water quality systems meet safety and compliance standards, supporting LEGOLAND®, CHIMA Water Park, Surfers Cove, and resort pools.
Key responsibilities include supervising and training the maintenance team, managing water quality systems, troubleshooting, maintaining chemical balances, and ensuring compliance with ASTM, San Diego County, and safety guidelines. The role also involves scheduling, preventive maintenance, inventory management, and supporting risk prevention efforts while fostering a positive, team-oriented environment.
Essential Job Functions:
• Assists the Rides Manager in park maintenance scheduling and budgeting for theme park facilities, buildings, and attractions.
• Follows established maintenance program, including emergency repairs as required to keep down time to an acceptable minimum in all areas of attractions and facilities.
• Ensures internal compliance with maintenance, safety, and security procedures by following established ASTM, San Diego County, and loss prevention guidelines.
• Ensures that all maintenance employees always follow the LEGO-established employee policies.
• Writes requisitions for parts and materials for rides, buildings, and all other attractions, then forwards them to the manager for approval.
• Keeps tools, machines, and all other company equipment in clean and good working order.
• Keep safety as #1 priority.
• Assists Rides Manager in preparing yearly budgets and constantly monitors budget for maximum efficiency and cost savings without jeopardizing the safety of guests and Model Citizens (MCs.)
• Assists Rides Manager in establishing long and short-range maintenance goals.
• Assists in designing and expanding a comprehensive training system geared to meet LEGO maintenance requirements.
• Keeps informed of modern management techniques and technical methods by attending supplemental courses, seminars, conventions, etc.
• Keeps abreast of governmental, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, ASTM, and San Diego County codes.
• Assists in conducting weekly staff meetings for the purpose of directing, informing, training, and motivating maintenance MCs.
• Creates and maintains teamwork within the maintenance department and all other departments.
• Periodically accompany maintenance technicians during ride inspections to recheck their methods, techniques, and procedures to ensure that their qualifications are current and complete.
• Evaluates procedures, methods, and monitors MCs productivity.
• Formally reviews MCs skills in regard to job performance and discusses written report with same on a quarterly basis.
• Assists Rides Manager in scheduling major maintenance repairs and program assignments.
• Review schedules of maintenance MCs with the Rides Manager.
Background and Experience:
• Requires a minimum of five years maintenance experience in a mechanical field as a journeyman.
• Requires building maintenance experience and the ability to read blueprints pertaining to rides, attractions, and buildings.
• Ability to react under pressure and in emergency situations in a calm, rational manner required.
• Requires a thorough understanding of utilities, mechanical and basic electrical maintenance requirements of all rides and equipment, including high-volume submersible and turbine-type water pumps.
• Ability to delegate responsibilities clearly, concisely, and maintain an open-door policy.
• Requires extensive knowledge in preventive maintenance systems.
• Requires the ability to walk into a situation, inspect and check work performed by others, and make a decision that the attraction is safe to reopen, keeping safety in mind as the top priority.
• Ability to read and evaluate reports, correspondence, and use basic math.
• Ability to maintain a friendly, polite demeanor.
• Requires the ability to observe and remember details, and to effectively follow and give directions.
• Requires effective decision-making skills.
• Computer literacy required.
• A considerable knowledge of the different tools and equipment used to repair and maintain rides and other mechanical equipment is required.
• Knowledge of the practices, tools, and equipment used to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain water filtration and treatment practices is required.
• Experience in the basic practices of plumbing, PVC piping application, and installation is required.
• Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends to support resort operations.
• Must be able to pass a background check and have valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and be willing to utilize own vehicle for business purposes.
• Water Quality Technicians will be required to obtain an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate within 6 months of employment.
• NAARSO level 1 certified.
• OSHA Construction and General Industry Hazard recognition 30-hour training certified.
• Level 2 internal department Electrician certified.
Education / Experience:
• High school diploma or general education degree equivalent is required.
• AA Degree Preferred
