What you'll bring to the team

Scope of Job:

This position will work under the direction of the Landscape Manager. All functions shall be performed in accordance with Landscape department and LEGOLAND New York Resort policies, practices, and procedures.

This position will ensure the appearance regarding gardens, landscapes, and displays for attractions.

Tasks performed will include but are not limited to mowing, edging, pruning, hedging, weed & pest control, minor irrigation repair, new landscaping projects and snow removal. The Landscaper will operate hand tools and power equipment in a safe, reliable manner. The Landscaper shall be responsible for maintaining landscaped areas with emphasis on routine daily tasks.

 

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Performs prescribed maintenance procedures as directed such as, but not limited to: mowing, edging, pruning, hedging, raking, sweeping, weed and pest control, snow removal.
  • Has working knowledge of common landscape, trees, plants, perennials, flowers, and groundcover; proper horticulture practices and procedures; some irrigation knowledge.
  • Completes assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Uses assigned tools and power equipment in a safe and prescribed manner, avoiding misuse, breakage, or loss.
  • Keeps tools, machines, and all other company equipment in clean and proper working order.
  • Reports broken or missing tools immediately to Manager.
  • Loads and unloads work vehicles.
  • Applies granular chemicals and fertilizers after proper training and under the supervision of the Landscape Team Leader.
  • When assigned for training/development purposes to a new or other Landscaper, is attentive to safety of self, other employees, and the public.
  • Maintains liaison with other maintenance employees and departments.
  • Keeps Safety as #1 priority.
  • Continuous training in many facets of the job.

 

Health & Safety:

Employees are responsible for the safety of themselves, their colleagues, and guests (where appropriate), in line with the Group Policy (HS001) and the law. They must ensure that they follow safe working procedures for all work activities that they undertake, and they must not use any tools or equipment for which they have not been trained.  Where incidents do occur, they must ensure that they are reported to their line manager and must cooperate with any investigation as appropriate.

 

Qualifications & Experience

Background and Experience:

A minimum of three years of experience in the landscape field or a demonstrated level of expertise to fulfil the responsibilities of the role preferred. Knowledge of safe work habits and demonstrable good safety practices are essential. Advanced knowledge of horticultural practices and plant identification preferred. Advanced level of task specific know-how to include use of essential tools and equipment and a basic foundation of proper irrigation techniques and repair options preferred. Requires the ability to observe and remember details and ability to understand and follow directions. Requires the ability to maintain a professional and service-oriented demeanor. Will be required to interact with the public and employees.

 

Education:

High school graduate or General Education Degree (or equivalent education and experience) is required.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit for sustained periods of time to attend on-site and off-site meetings, perform paperwork activities, travel and drive.
  • Intermittent and prolonged standing and walking to move about the resort site and interact with employees.
  • Intermittent and prolonged kneeling for planting, plant maintenance and maintenance of flower beds.
  • Ability to bend, flex, lift, and all associated physical activity to perform job related tasks.
  • Finger dexterity sufficient to complete paperwork activities and perform job related tasks.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read written materials, to complete paperwork activities, and to drive.
  • Hearing sufficient to communicate with individuals in person and by telephone and/or radio.

 

Work Environment:

  • Various inside and outside locations with varying temperatures and floor surfaces.
  • Exposed to extreme heat, cold, wet and/or humid conditions.

 

Other Job Requirements:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays and weekends to support resort operations.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record and be willing to utilize own vehicle for business purposes.
  • Attendance is a mandatory function of this job.

Pay Range

USD $18.00/Hr.
