Scope of Job:

The Technical Captain’s responsibility is to maintain the quality of the guest experience at the highest level possible by ensuring that all technical aspects of areas under Entertainment and Events are delivered at consistently excellent levels. Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to supporting show operations (audio, lighting, scenic, props, pyrotechnics, and video), special events install/operation/strike, and resort wide audio support including ride audio/background music/paging microphones, theatrical lighting systems, and effects inside the 4D theatre.  Entertainment team members are cross trained to work and support in all areas of the Entertainment Technical Department.  Supports and assists the Entertainment Technical team, reporting directly to the Entertainment Technical Manager and leading technicians. Supports the technical daily operation resort wide. Assists in the deployment of plans for events and installations resort wide.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a liaison and support for the Entertainment Technical Manager on a daily basis.
  • Oversees Technical team on a daily basis to ensure show quality is maintained and adherence to operating procedures is followed at all times.
  • Works alongside the team and demonstrates LEGOLAND Florida’s performance/service expectation by example.
  • Able to carry out all Technician duties as outlined in the Technician job descriptions. 
  • Responds to the needs of staff during the day, covering for absence as necessary or by working in the position.
  • Responsible for working alongside their team during busy periods or relief for breaks and lunches.
  • Provide Department support by communicating through all entertainment technical discipline areas and management as issues arise.
  • Responsible for informing the manager of any possible delays, cancellations or problems that may occur whenever necessary. 
  • Check and complete project lists and email daily to ensure routine and assigned tasks are accomplished in a timely manner.

 

  • Leads by maintaining the inventory and count of equipment in the technical store and submits purchase requests to the Entertainment Technical Manager to maintain sufficient shelf stock.
  • Assists with SOP’s and checkout sheets are kept up to date and monitors the training standards of all technical positions.
  • Assist in training and rehearsal process as assigned by department leadership.
  • Provides notes and performance feedback to Technicians.
  • Provide informal coaching and deliver corrective actions for Technicians as necessary.
  • Holds meetings to review communication and delegate agendas for daily operation.
  • Aids the Manager in the recruitment and advancement decision making process by providing necessary feedback.
  • Assists with the Entertainment Technician schedule.
  • Create and maintain frontline schedules based on project deadlines teams status and availability.
  • Check, edit and approve assigned area payroll to ensure all information is accurately logged.
  • Completes weekly schedules ensuring that park staffing is adequate for budgeted needs as assigned by department leadership.
  • Completes weekly payroll functions as assigned by department leadership.
  • Participates in training classes for individual development.
  • Functions as a department role model to ensure guest interaction initiatives are met with all Entertainment Experiences.
  • Occasionally acts as “Manager-on-Duty” (Unit 600) for the Entertainment Team as a whole.
  • Ensures that Legoland Florida Resort maintains a fun and positive work environment while promoting teamwork, collaboration, and professionalism in accordance with the Merlin Way.

 

Health & Safety:

Employees are responsible for the safety of themselves, their colleagues and guests (where appropriate), in line with the Group Policy (HS001) and the law. In particular, they must ensure that they follow safe working procedures for all work activities that they undertake. They must not use any tools or equipment for which they have not been trained.  Where incidents do occur, they must ensure that they are reported to their line manager and must cooperate with any investigation as appropriate.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand/sit for sustained periods of time to attend on-site and off-site meetings, perform show activities and travel.
  • Intermittent and prolonged standing and walking to move about the park site, and interact with Model Citizens and guests.
  • Finger dexterity sufficient to complete paperwork activities and use a computer.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read written materials.
  • Hearing sufficient to communicate with individuals in person and by telephone.

 

 

Work Environment:

  • Various inside and outside locations with varying temperatures and floor surfaces.
  • Must have flexible schedule/hours as well as work in conditions subject to Florida Summer Sun and Heat.
  • Exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.

 

Other Job Requirements:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends to support resort operations.
  • Ability to plan and delegate work tasks
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Familiarization of driving larger sized vehicles, genie lifts, and forklifts not required but preferred.
  • Attendance is a mandatory function of this job.
  • Must actively embody and reinforce company safety guidelines and programs

Qualifications & Experience

Background and Experience:

  • Three years of technical entertainment experience in a theme park or closely related field
  • Strong Understanding and Advanced Knowledge of the following areas as it relates to Technical Entertainment Audio, its installation, and its upkeep
  • Strong Problem Solving abilities
  • Proven ability to Lead a team through planning, implementing and execution
  • Experience with Yamaha QL1 or similar boards a must
  • Minimum Dante Level 1 and 2 certified, Level 3 certification preferred
  • Experience designing both stand alone audio systems and incorporating new equipment into existing audio systems a must
  • QSys programming experience preferred
  • Experience with both active and passive speakers preferred

 

Education:

BA/BFA in Technical Theatre, Technical Management, or equivalent experience is preferred.
