To design, develop, deploy and assess training programs for technical services work practices, with special attention to maintaining rides and attractions by Rides Maintenance department.
Responsible for directing the planning, application and completion of the training program for Ride Maintenance engineers to ensure compliance to local and Group requirements.
Facilitates the training and compliance with internal policies and guidance documents for specific operating departments responsible for ride and attraction operation.
Tracks and maintains training recordkeeping programs to ensure compliance with local and company requirements.
Verifies the preparation of trained technicians and personnel to complete inspections, testing, operation and use of rides, equipment and tools for Technical Services, with specific attention to Ride Maintenance team.
Provides hands-on training of department personnel, including the development of key individuals to assist in the training.
Provides immediate performance feedback, including corrective action where necessary, regarding the application of safety procedures and policies to Model Citizens while observing their work performance.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for the creation, management and implementation of training requirements for the Technical Services department, specifically focused on Rides Maintenance in alignment with Merlin policy requirements.
Involved in the planning, coordination and completion of ride maintenance and ride operation training as it relates to updated procedures, recertification and new initiatives.
Creates training materials that will be used to deliver consistent, thorough and compliance training programs, procedures and work practices
Develops department training guides, user materials and procedures for the safe use of equipment, machinery, tools, and regulatory inspection requirements.
Supports the creation, establishment, work application and recordkeeping of local and state requirements for general health and safety training and industry compliance requirements.
Enforces the application of safety procedures and practices ensuring employees are following the resort safety standards during their job duties.
Regularly provides reporting to operations showing the effectiveness of training programs and identifying training needs.
Main Responsibilities:
Operations & Training
Administers training on ride and attraction operating procedures and work practices according to department programs, Codes of Safety Working Practices (CoSWPs) and local requirements.
Creates training programs for standardized operational procedures for daily inspections, operating procedures and documentation
Plans with Ride Supervisor team to identify future projects, tasks and ride-specific maintenance activities and creates a training plan to ensure the required labor is sufficiently and completely trained before work commences.
Partners with subject matter experts to create learning content, training materials and assessment tools for the training programs currently established and/or those newly required.
Responsible for completing, filing and tracking training documentation, creating records for new training courses. Verifies training data is efficiently entered and recordkeeping remains up to date for reporting.
Coordinates with HSS program development and prepares training content for use within Rides Maintenance and other Technical Services teams.
Assists in establishing programs and procedures, including resources and tracking records, for regulatory work requirements, mechanical equipment and departmental work that can be used for multiple Technical Services teams
Supports the management and recordkeeping of local and state requirements for general health and safety training and industry compliance requirements.
Manages training record database for ride specific, departmental knowledge and skill certifications, keeping data updated and available for reporting as needed.
Leads the development of an ongoing training topic program, such as toolbox talks, to align with NAARSO and/or other certified training programs to maintain technician certification.
Facilitates training to individuals and/or larger audiences providing clear and precise information.
Audits and assesses individuals following training to measure understanding and capability.
Compliance & Auditing
Prepares collection of records for audits and inspections of rides and attractions, particularly for DOSH and Merlin audits. Prepared as back up to escort and support inspectors and auditors.
Participates, as applicable, during third party audits and other resort compliance reviews, providing records and training materials for review
Audits the operational procedures of Technical Services department, specifically Ride Maintenance, to ensure compliance to resort and legal requirements and provide training as needed for gaps identified
Responsible for the completion of actions identified as a result of audits, ensuring their completion by the date assigned.
Conducts inspections and audits to monitor the effectiveness of the developed health and safety programs and procedures.
Regularly identifies areas of improvement and reports to management, providing solutions to establish future program applications.

Works with the Compliance and Technical Services Management team to focus on guest and employee injury prevention specifically as it relates to claims, property damage and preventable loss.

Works with Rides Maintenance, Operations and Health & Safety in all departments to develop and implement safety and compliance programs as ongoing development for employees at all levels. Creates documentation to record and use as a reference during training. This documentation can include training plans, learning objectives, training resources and materials, presentations and training records.

Responsible for adhering to policies and procedures, and effectively providing training and communication to employees to promote adherence by to the same.
Responsible for promoting and demonstrating LEGO’s and Merlin’s SOPs, culture and core values through words and actions
Health & Safety:
Managers/supervisors are responsible for all aspects of Health, Safety & Security within their team, in line with the Group Policy (HS001). In particular, they must ensure that risk assessments have been carried out, that safe working procedures are in place for all work activities and that all employees in their teams are aware of the Group Health, Safety and Security Policy and their obligations under it. They must ensure that safe working practices are monitored and that risk assessments and procedures are reviewed regularly. Where incidents do occur, they must ensure that they are investigated appropriately and that where necessary, corrective action is taken to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
Employees are responsible for the safety of themselves, their colleagues and guests (where appropriate), in line with the Group Policy (HS001) and the law. In particular, they must ensure that they follow safe working procedures for all work activities that they undertake and they must not use any tools or equipment for which they have not been trained. Where incidents do occur, they must ensure that they are reported to their line manager and must cooperate with any investigation as appropriate.
Support of the inspection and maintenance program of rides by the local team, as well as third party inspection bodies, are in compliance to Group Engineering policies.

2-3 years experience in a position responsible for ride and attraction operational procedures preferred.
Working knowledge of relevant ride and attraction standards and regulations, including OSHA, CalOSHA, DOSH, ASTM, etc.
Working knowledge, or experience, with technical regulatory work practices, such as working at height, lifting, heavy equipment use, etc
Able to articulate technical knowledge and information with clarity and detail, while relating to both a technical and non-technical audience.
Ability to communicate procedures and processes with written materials, presentations and hands-on demonstration.
Experience in delivering technical training preferred, specifically relating to ride and attraction operation, maintenance and inspection.
Proven written and oral communication skills with the ability to articulate working processes to a range of people so as to influence others.
Able to handle multiple projects and quick to adapt and take on new initiatives.
Proven record of identifying areas of improvement, identifying action plans and implementing change to influence a compliant, safe or enhanced work environment, product or work area.
Proficient in systems and programs to record training data and provide formalized reports as required.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, at minimum.
A minimum of two years maintenance experience in a mechanical field preferred. Supervisor experience preferred. Experience creating training material and facilitating training on technical procedures required.
Ability to read and evaluate reports, correspondence and use basic math. Ability to maintain a friendly, polite demeanour. Requires the ability to observe and remember details, and to effectively follow and give directions. Requires effective decision-making skills. Computer literacy required.
Education
Degree level of education is preferred.
OSHA 30 hour training required.
Involvement in amusement ride industry organizations preferred.
