ROLE SUMMARY:

 

As the Controls Assistant Manager, you’ll be the behind-the-scenes pro keeping rides, attractions, and AV systems running smoothly. Working with the Senior Manager, you’ll lead the controls team, balancing technical know-how with people-focused leadership. From planning and scheduling to training and quick problem-solving, you’ll keep operations safe, reliable, and fun so every guest has an unforgettable experience.

Qualifications & Experience

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Schedule daily tasks for ride control and AV technicians; track and assign all work orders within the Enterprise Asset Management system (HxGN).

  • Support the department duty management program and serve as Duty Manager when required.

  • Manage welfare and development of direct reports; demonstrate strong communication skills in facilitating discussions between technicians and management.

  • Assist the Senior Engineering & Controls Manager in fostering a culture of quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

  • Promote the use of modern tools and practices (e.g., HxGN, RCA) to increase efficiency, with a long-term focus on predictive maintenance.

  • Lead by example: perform operational technician duties when needed, including planned and reactive maintenance and ride start-up procedures.

  • Provide guidance during repairs and emergency situations.

  • Ensure compliance with internal and external requirements, including safety and technical bulletins, manual revisions, and PPM updates.

  • Complete all administrative activities related to Notification of Change (NOC) documentation; liaise with authorized inspection bodies (AIB) as required.

  • Model professionalism in attendance, timekeeping, communication, and conduct; apply disciplinary procedures where necessary.

  • Exhibit a positive mindset aligned with Merlin Entertainments’ values; encourage team commitment and collaboration.

  • Pursue professional development opportunities for self and team (e.g., training, trade body conferences, professional memberships).

  • Support team members’ growth by identifying and enabling relevant development opportunities.

  • Respond appropriately to compliance or general communications and complete assigned actions promptly.

  • Assist with planning and delivering engineering activities, business KPIs, and long-term objectives.

  • Support technician recruitment efforts to maintain adequate staffing levels.

  • Build strong relationships with the operations team; follow up on downtime issues and contribute to improved efficiency.

  • Ensure all LEGOLAND Florida attractions meet OEM and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Supervisory or management experience preferred.

  • Strong people management skills with a proven ability to build and develop effective teams.

  • Hands-on experience with control equipment and logic-based controllers (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff).

  • Knowledge of communication protocols: Ethernet IP, Profibus, CIP, EtherCAT, Modbus, ASII, SERCOS.

  • Working knowledge of Vectorworks, Q-Sys Programming, Nion Media Matrix, Alcorn McBride, Yamaha, GrandMA, and Shure Audio Systems (preferred).

  • Familiarity with OSHA, ANSI, ETCP, NFPA, and other relevant entertainment industry safety standards.

  • Experience with CCTV systems (analogue and network-based PoE).

  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in working with life safety electrical equipment in mechanical environments.

  • Advanced analytical skills in control system fault-finding and logic-based programming.

  • Proficiency with VLAN/WLAN protocols and automated control devices.

  • Experience in low voltage electrical wiring and troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge of internal safety and security compliance procedures.

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

  • Formal qualification in PLC programming or computing.

  • Continuous improvement certification (e.g., Lean Six Sigma) preferred.

Pay Range

From USD $80,000.00/Yr.
